TRANSFORM YOUR BEDROOM INTO A FIVE-STAR OASIS
2017 is here! January is already in full swing and The Quiet Moose team is looking forward to lots of exciting projects this year. We are always thrilled when appointed with the task of transforming the interior design of bedrooms. We work closely with our clients to include collections of carefully selected artwork, fabrics, furniture and soft furnishings. Have you ever wondered what it is about a bedroom that makes it feel luxurious? Moreover, how does one create that feeling of a beautiful swoon-worthy master retreat? With a few simple tips, you can transform your bedroom at home into a five-star oasis!
Bedrooms are very personal and private rooms. They are calming retreats where we can shut the door to the world to find peace, relaxation, and intimacy. Bedrooms are also hard working spaces that have a lot of practical considerations. The perfect bedroom is one which strikes a balance between a calming aesthetic and a clever pragmatic design. Careful thought needs to be given to storage, seating, lighting and the flow to connecting rooms like an en-suite bathroom or dressing room.
When beginning a bedroom design, start by looking at the amount of natural light the room gets. This will influence the general arrangement of furniture as well as the color palette and elements such as floor, wall and window treatments. If you have a bedroom with large windows and high ceilings, you might consider soft color tones to enhance the light and airy feeling this creates. Using a gentle color palette, tactile weaves and decorative borders create interest in the fabrics. Consider a heavy, luxurious linen fabric for the curtains to keep the warmth in and block the light when needed.
The centerpiece in any bedroom is the bed. Four poster or sleigh beds create a dramatic statement while upholstered beds create a soft, welcoming feeling. The bed, however, is never left on its own. Think of the bench and side tables as a triangle that surrounds and anchors the bed. These elements have an important aesthetic impact but they are obviously also very practical for storing extra blankets, books, and other personal items. Deciding on the style of bedside furniture will depend on your lifestyle. If you have a lot of books and gadgets to keep handy you’ll want sizeable side tables with plenty of storage. But if you prefer your bedroom to be more of a zen-like space, in which sleeping is the priority, you can get away with minimal wall lights and very simple bedside storage.
There are many more decisions that go into making a bedroom a cherished place to relax and renew – from indulging in luxurious linens down to the smallest of details, such as, selecting the perfect light bulbs to give off the perfect amount of light. If I had to list all of them I would be here all day! Suffice to say, if you follow the tips I’ve mentioned above you will be well on your way to transforming your bedroom at home into a five-star oasis!
